Educational Counseling
The counselor is equipped to provide advice and assistance to students in the development of their educational plans, choice of appropriate courses, and choice of university or technical school. Today in Sri Lanka, there are many opportunities for students to pursue higher studies. But it is important that they are guided to choose wisely so that their time and finances are well utilized towards the best possible outcome.
Counseling is also provided to improve study skills or provide assistance with school-related problems that interfere with performance (e.g., learning disabilities). Educational counseling is closely associated with vocational counseling because of the relationship between educational training and occupational choice.
Counselors work with students as well as parents, and educators to help the students succeed academically and socially. They provide one-on-one emotional guidance and help students plan for their futures by guiding them in building a career. Also, the counselor helps the student/client to overcome exam anxiety and other stress-related issues.
